But I won't be holding my breath, that the Bruchac's actually publicly renounce their false identity as such ... the research continues for who Louis (their ancestor)'s parentage was from paternally. And he had opportunities in his author's note to give sources for the pronunciations he uses, and his reasons for using them. My relatives who study/know the Creek language say that there are variable pronunciations for some words, but they hadn't heard the ones mentioned in the blog post.Jean Mendozahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01082939369068823250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27760240.post-40595186286429200112019-01-31T12:49:38.223-06:002019-01-31T12:49:38.223-06:00Sadly, having lived in the Northeast for 10 years,...Sadly, having lived in the Northeast for 10 years, I would definitely not assume it would occur to anyone at Dial to ask if the Mvskoke content was correct. That said, is it possible there's a dialect difference at play? I've been caught by surprise before by the variations between Ojibwe speakers, even from the same band. Or is there more of an agreed-upon "Standard" Creek?Erikahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11656547818626952733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27760240.post-7361266291578073992019-01-29T21:35:08.422-06:002019-01-29T21:35:08.422-06:00G Ford, it makes me wonder why Dial's editoria...G Ford, it makes me wonder why Dial's editorial staff didn't help Bruchac catch the problems with continuity and accuracy before publication. Surely they would know that, these days, somebody from a Native nation -- in this case, maybe somebody who actually knows the Creek language -- is likely to read the book and notice that kind of problem. Wasn't the Mvskoke content important enough to get right the first time? Wouldn't that be terrific!G Fordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05180597439133643558noreply@blogger.com
