If we ignore, put aside, or ban any piece of literature, then we (children and adults) stay stuck in that thinking but if we carefully, thoughtfully, and accurately use a piece of literature to discuss stereotypes, inaccuracies, racism, etc then our next generation learns to reshape their thinking and so do we.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27760240.post-14299988731648745952014-07-23T13:56:24.972-05:002014-07-23T13:56:24.972-05:00When this book was first printed, stereotyping peo...When this book was first printed, stereotyping people of race, religion or cultures could be found everywhere. This doesn’t make it right, especially for what we hope to teach children and teens today. In my opinion both author and publisher need to take a good look back at this book and either do revisions or take it out of print. You might expect a book written in the 1800’s to make these types of statements about the people of the time because that was the way they saw it, a lesson for readers that it was more one sided than true. But if we have authors writing fiction today for readers, historical facts should be accurate.<br /> Maybe the way to use this book in a class is to point out the inaccuracies and assign students to search out the truth.Cadihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11225751930330140448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27760240.post-63732193471605050462014-07-22T12:05:58.600-05:002014-07-22T12:05:58.600-05:00Thank you Debbie.
