I shared this book (and your review) with preservice teachers last week, and we all appreciated your words. The diversity that is introduced within this book is much appreciated. This gives the audience an opportunity to be awakened to the cultural differences in the Native community who were not aware. Fry Bread is more than just a book but it's a cultural piece of literature that is breaking barriers to get involved with letting the world know about this amazing traditions and diversity. It gives people of any race and creed a sense of hope and independence when they see their faces in pictures and words through a book and you have definitely created that space with Fry Bread! It is a very damaging idea that is put on people. I am wondering what they say about Fry Bread though? Do they talk about how it is not really a traditional food, and that all these different tribes had their own traditional bread? How Fry Bread was born from rationing commodities that our grand parents had to survive on? Just curious, because there are so many health issues that come with this that we see today, and I feel like this is another damaging expectation of Native American peoples, to make and eat Fry Bread.

Thank you,
Kathryn LaRoquensn1lovehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04063460569120223943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27760240.post-64734652755142349312019-10-22T11:12:14.473-05:002019-10-22T11:12:14.473-05:00Thank you for this review.
